Co-op Service Requirements

We are thrilled that you have chosen to be a part of the LAF Co-op. In order to run our Co-op efficiently and serve the needs of all our families, we need everyone to serve cooperatively.

The LAF Co-op Service Requirement is based on a TASK system. Each Co-op family is required to fulfill a specific number of TASKS each day at Co-op, based on the number and/or type of classes their students are taking.

Please note that the maximum number of TASKS on any given day will not exceed FOUR, regardless of how many classes your family is taking. Also note that there are some off-campus TASKS available (see below for more information)

TASK BREAKDOWN BY GRADE

  • Junior Co-op
    • Parents will be assigned a service role for the entirety of the Junior Co-op day and the duration of the school year
    • This assignment will fulfill your service requirement for all students at Co-op during the Junior Co-op timeframe
  • Elementary Afternoon/Middle/High School Co-op
    • 1 TASK for every class your family is taking (up to four TASKS for any given family)
    • If you have Junior Co-op students and no Elementary, Middle or High School classes in the last two periods of the day, your requirement is fulfilled
    • If you have Junior Co-op students PLUS at least one Elementary, Middle, or High School class in the last two periods of the day, you will be required to fulfill 1 TASK in addition to your Junior Service Role

EXEMPTIONS

Facilitators, members of the Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and Co-op Administration automatically fulfill their requirements by serving in those roles.
How It Works

Each family will be assigned TASKS according to the number of classes your students are taking and the Co-op’s needs (with your preferences taken into consideration).

TASK assignments will last for the duration of the school year (or semester if the student is taking only 1 semester classes).

Each family will have an opportunity to request which TASKS they prefer. However, please keep in mind that we will not be able to honor every request received. We ask that our LAF families serve in their TASK position with a cheerful heart. It takes a lot of manpower to run our community successfully and we want to nurture a happy, Christ-like, family environment supporting a “team” mentality.

A survey will be sent over the summer explaining the tasks and asking for your preferences. Please fill this out as soon as you receive it. Most TASKS will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Be sure to choose three different TASK preferences. Do NOT list the same TASK multiple times or your survey will not be considered. There will be a section where you can explain special requests.

TASK assignments will be emailed before the start of the school year.

When you arrive each day on campus, you will sign in as a family in the gym check-in area. At the start and end of your TASK, you will report to the Leadership Station in the Canopy Building and sign in and out with a member of our Leadership Team.

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to email lafpresident@gmail.com.

Understanding The TASK System

Any family enrolled in our Junior Co-op Program is required to be in an assigned, on-campus service position for the duration of Junior Co-op. This fulfills all service requirements for that part of the day, even if they have middle and high school students registered during that time frame.  If Junior Co-op families have an elementary, middle and/or high school taking a class during the last two periods, they will be required to fulfill 1 TASK after Junior Co-op. Families with Middle and/or High School students (but NO Junior Co-op students) must fulfill one TASK for each class the family is taking, up to four classes. Please note that your family is welcome to register for as many classes as you need. You will only be responsible for a maximum of four TASKS in a Co-op day. Please note that some service jobs fulfill two or more TASKS (check the TASK List Description below for details).

TASK Defined

A TASK is defined as a service assignment completed for a designated time frame. See below for a list of TASKs. Each family must fulfill one TASK for each Middle/High School class for up to four class periods.
