We are so grateful to have an awesome high school math facilitator this year at LAF. However, she is also our beloved K – 3 Art facilitator! That’s why traditional Math Classes are being held on Tuesdays with our Project-Based Learning classes.

Algebra 1
Facilitator: Soon Sim Hakes
This Algebra 1 course follows the Teaching Textbooks Online Curriculum (Version 4.0), with a few lessons assigned weekly (see syllabus). During class, we will review key concepts for that week, introduce important vocabulary, and walk through example problems. We will also reinforce understanding of the topics with in-class practice activities. Students are encouraged to bring questions from previous assignments.
Required Materials
- Teaching Textbooks Online App Algebra 1 – Version 4.0: Students will work through the assigned lessons on their own at home each week, following our class syllabus. Here’s the link to the online app, if needed.
- (2) Notebooks, Writing Tools & Ruler: One notebook is for taking notes during class, and the other is for working through online assignments and jotting down questions.
- Graph Paper & Stapler: Students will use the quad-ruled filler paper for graphing in class. Once done, they can staple the paper into their notebook to keep everything together.
- Graphing Calculator (Optional): Using a graphing calculator is only mentioned in one lesson, so getting one is optional. Either the TI-83 Plus or the TI-84 Plus by Texas Instruments will work for this course.
