SUMMARY:AWAKEN FOOD PANTRY COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
DESCRIPTION:LAF’s Zdrojowy family pastor Awaken Church in Port Charlotte. Many distribution centers are closed in that area and have sent their supplies to Awaken’s church/food pantry. LAF is taking a group down to help organize donations and run the food pantry. They will put us to work wherever they need us! \nBeginning huddle is at 8 am. If you can make that\, it would be amazing. If you can’t get there until later\, that’s okay. Any portion of the day that you can come will be helpful. \nBring your own lunch. Older kids are welcome to come help! Parents need to keep track of their own kids. \nIf we can get some teens who can help\, we will take a crew over to the Zdrojowy’s house\, where there is a lot of hard cleanup that needs to happen. Bring lots of bug spray; it’s mosquito-infested! \nPlease visit the Facebook event if you are able to come\, so we have a rough idea of numbers. This year\, the Learning and Families graduation will take place on Friday\, May 19\, 2023 at Covenant Life Presbyterian Church\, 8490 McIntosh Rd\, Sarasota\,  FL  34238. \nWe are hosting an information meeting in Sarasota off Lockwood Ridge Rd (north of University) on September 7th at 6:30 pm to begin brainstorming and planning for this year’s ceremony. We invite families to be involved in the planning process\, so they really feel like the graduation is their own. You and your graduate are invited to attend. Bring a snack or dessert to share. SUMMARY:Junior Co-op Practice Day
DESCRIPTION:Junior Co-op families will attend a Practice Day the week before Co-op starts so they can practice going to Co-op! \nJunior Co-op is a great way to enrich your homeschool journey\, but it can also overwhelm families when they first begin. The practice day will help families acclimate to Co-op and feel confident when they arrive on the first day. Even families who have participated for many years will benefit from meeting their new facilitators and pod parents. \nWe require all Junior Co-op families to attend the Practice Day. \nStudents will meet their facilitators and pod parents\, who will help them navigate Co-op. They will sit through a morning assembly\, practice walking up to their first class\, find out where to put their belongings\, and then practice transitioning to breaks and other classes. They can visit the bathrooms and water fountains so they feel more confident\, and they can practice getting picked up by a parent at the end of the day. \nThis entire day is much shorter than a typical Co-op day\, but it will give your Junior Co-op student confidence for the start of the year!
